October 3-7 Lesson Plans

Reading

  • Monday
    • Students who have mastered “Plot Episodes” will continue to analyze plot of “Knots on a Counting Rope.”
    • I will reteach plot episodes to students who did not master “Plot Episodes.”
    • Homework: Reading Log Question 3
  • Tuesday
    • Students will work with their guided reading group to read the first chapters of their group selected fiction novel to analyze setting and conflict.
      • Students will work on Guided Reading Handout 1.
    • Homework: Reading Log Question 4
  • Wednesday
    • As a group, students will share their setting analysis.
    • Students will read in guided reading groups and work on Guided Reading Handout 1.
    • Homework: Reading Log Question 5, Due tomorrow.
  • Thursday
    • We will have a whole group lesson on point of view.
    • Students will read their novel with group and determine the point of view of the text.
    • Students will work on Guided Reading Handout 1.
    • Homework: Reading Log is due at the beginning of class, and students will complete question 1 on new log.

    • Students will work with group to read novel and determine the conflict of their novel.
    • Students will complete Guided Reading Handout 1.
    • Homework: Reading Log Question 2

  • Monday
    • Students will type rough draft of W.A.R. 2 in Google Document and revise draft to add compound sentences with proper punctuation.
  • Tuesday
    • Students will learn how to use parts of speech to help find apporpriate synonyms to revise thier W.A.R. 2 draft.
  • Wednesday
    • Students will put W.A.R. 2 draft  into Peg Writing to edit spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors.
  • Thursday
    • Students will complete writing stations and create final draft of W.A.R. 2.
  • Friday 
    • Students will share Writing About Reading 2 final draft.

September 26-30 Lesson Plans

Reading

  • Monday
    • Students will continue to analyze plot as a group and groups will share analysis with class.
    • Homework: Students will complete question 3 on reading log.
  • Tuesday
    • Students will independently practice analyzing plot using Moby Max.
    • Homework: Students will read for at least 20 minutes and log it. Students should have all 3 questions on back of log complete. If not, they should complete them.
  • Wednesday 
    • Students will be grouped and assigned guided reading texts.
    • We will learn CHAMPS expectations during guided reading. Students will learn what their responsibilities are in guided reading. In addition, they will learn how to participate and evaluate their participation using a self assessment checklist. We will role play and model guided reading as a class.
    • Homework: Students will read for at least 20 minutes and log it. Students should have all 3 questions on back of log complete. If not, they should complete them.
  • Thursday
    • Students will start guided reading text and analyze the exposition.
    • Homework: Students will turn in reading log and get new one. They will complete question 1.
  • Friday
    • Students will continue to reading guided reading text with group while analyzing the exposition.
    • Homework: Students will complete question 2 on reading log.

      • Homework if not completed in class.

    • We will have an interactive read aloud of “Rosie Revere, Engineer,” and analyze the theme of the text.

  • Tuesday
    • Students will take notes over plot structure.
    • As a class we will identify the parts of plot and theme in the interactive read aloud “Freedom Trip.”
      • Homework: Reading Log question 4
  • Wednesday
    • As a group, students will complete a plot mountain after reading a short story.
      • Homework: Reading Log question 5, due tomorrow.

    • Students will work independently to identify the part of plot in a short story on MobyMax.
