December 12-16 Lesson Plans

Reading

  • Students will work with their group to organize and film a book talk to be shown to students next year. The videos will be used to help future students select guided reading material. Students will learn how to use a video making chrome extension WeVideo.

English

  • Students will review for their final exam by completing a writing about reading response paragraph over their guided reading book and writing a paragraph response explaining the most meaningful thing they have learned while working on their PBL.
    • I will provide feedback in class so that students can make improvements on their writing responses on their final.

 

September 26-30 Lesson Plans

Reading

  • Monday
    • Students will continue to analyze plot as a group and groups will share analysis with class.
    • Homework: Students will complete question 3 on reading log.
  • Tuesday
    • Students will independently practice analyzing plot using Moby Max.
    • Homework: Students will read for at least 20 minutes and log it. Students should have all 3 questions on back of log complete. If not, they should complete them.
  • Wednesday 
    • Students will be grouped and assigned guided reading texts.
    • We will learn CHAMPS expectations during guided reading. Students will learn what their responsibilities are in guided reading. In addition, they will learn how to participate and evaluate their participation using a self assessment checklist. We will role play and model guided reading as a class.
    • Homework: Students will read for at least 20 minutes and log it. Students should have all 3 questions on back of log complete. If not, they should complete them.
  • Thursday
    • Students will start guided reading text and analyze the exposition.
    • Homework: Students will turn in reading log and get new one. They will complete question 1.
  • Friday
    • Students will continue to reading guided reading text with group while analyzing the exposition.
    • Homework: Students will complete question 2 on reading log.

    • Students will complete outline for W.A.R. draft 2.
      • Homework if not completed in class.

    • Students will complete rough draft for W.A.R. draft 2.
      • Homework if not completed in class.

    • We will have a lesson on commas in sentences. Students will utilize lesson to revise and edit W.A.R. 2.

    • Students will complete writing stations revising and editing W.A.R. 2.

    • Students will complete “Theme Practice” on Moby Max.
    • We will have an interactive read aloud of “Rosie Revere, Engineer,” and analyze the theme of the text.

    • Students will take notes over plot structure.
    • As a class we will identify the parts of plot and theme in the interactive read aloud “Freedom Trip.”

    • As a group, students will complete a plot mountain after reading a short story.
      • Homework: Reading Log question 5, due tomorrow.

    • Students will work independently to identify the part of plot in a short story on MobyMax.

    • Students will read in their independent reading book while teacher conferences with individuals.
  • Wednesday
    • As a class students will practice making inferences using text evidence from “Out of My Mind.”
    • Students will work independently to make inferences about their character from their independent reading book.
      • Students will complete Character Inference  Graphic Organizer.
  • Thursday
    • Students will continue to complete Character Inference Graphic Organizer
    • Students will complete an “Inference Exit Slip.”
      • Students will read in their independent reading book while teacher conferences with individuals.
    • Homework: Reading Log
      • Students will be assigned thier first reading log. They are expected to read 20 minutes, 5 days a week and answer 1 question a day over thier fiction independent reading book. This log is due, Thursday, September 8. It is not designed to be completed in one day or one sitting. It is an assignment that should be worked on a little each day. Students are working on an sample reading log in class with me and will have a reference if they do not understand how to properly complete it. I will grade the log using a rubric that will also be given to the students as a reference.
